Hectors Goby

Hector's goby, Koumansetta hectori, has a dark bluish body marked by bright yellow horizontal stripes. It moves close to the bottom, sifting and grazing as it searches for edible material around sand and rock.

Provide an established aquarium with suitable sand, natural growth and plenty of small retreats. Offer a varied diet that includes appropriately sized marine meaty foods and algae-based preparations. Watch the individual eat, since constant picking around the aquarium does not prove it is receiving sufficient nutrition.

Calm tankmates help this peaceful goby continue feeding without being driven into hiding. Avoid fish capable of swallowing it or persistently competing around its shelter. Its grazing may be useful, but choose it for a suitable long-term home rather than assuming it will resolve a particular algae problem.
