Hawaiian Strawberry Crab

The Hawaiian Strawberry Crab has the speckled, strawberry-like appearance that gives this small reef crab its common name. It spends much of its time among sheltered rock surfaces, making crevices and overhangs useful parts of its aquarium habitat.

Offer an omnivorous diet that includes algae-based foods and small portions of marine meat. Natural grazing can contribute to its diet, but a visually clean aquarium may provide little food. Place supplemental food near its shelter so faster tankmates do not intercept everything.

Treat compatibility as an observation rather than a guarantee. Even a crab that grazes algae should be monitored around delicate invertebrates, particularly when food is limited. Protect it during molts and avoid predatory fish that hunt crustaceans.
