Harlequin Tuskfish

The harlequin tuskfish, Choerodon fasciatus, is a wrasse with orange bands, blue accents and conspicuous teeth. It may be reserved when first introduced, then become a much bolder presence as it settles and grows. Reported adult growth reaches about 30 cm (12 inches), so leave room for its increasing bulk and activity.

Allow generous swimming room around secure rock shelters. Feed varied marine meaty foods and confirm that the individual is taking a diet you can continue. A fitted cover is essential, since a startled tuskfish can jump despite its substantial body.

Its predatory feeding makes small ornamental invertebrates unsuitable companions. Choose other fish for their adult size and ability to coexist with an assertive wrasse, while avoiding relentless aggressors. A second tuskfish should not be presumed compatible. The listing name alone does not establish a particular collection region or regional colour form.
