Griessinger's Goby

Griessinger's goby, Discordipinna griessingeri, is also known as the spikefin goby. Its ornate fins and intricate markings belong to a tiny, secretive fish that is best appreciated in a quiet aquarium where it can be observed close to its shelter.

Build crevices among small rock and rubble areas, with suitable sand nearby. Offer finely sized marine meaty foods close enough for the goby to find. Check that it is eating rather than assuming food broadcast into the main swimming area reaches every resident.

Large fish, aggressive neighbours and strong feeding competition are poor matches. Even peaceful fish may be unsuitable if they can swallow such a small goby. Protect openings in the aquarium cover, and leave its chosen retreats accessible instead of repeatedly dismantling them to find the fish.
