Grey Angelfish

The grey angelfish, Pomacanthus arcuatus, grows from a dark, yellow-banded juvenile into a broad-bodied grey adult. This change in both appearance and scale makes it a fish for a deliberately planned, spacious marine system. Reported adult growth reaches about 50 cm (20 inches), a substantial commitment beyond its juvenile size.

Allow unobstructed swimming routes and caves large enough for the mature fish to enter comfortably. Offer sponge-containing angelfish preparations with marine algae and varied meaty foods. Mature rockwork provides browsing opportunities, while regular feeding and maintenance support the demands of a substantial animal.

Reef invertebrates may be sampled, and other large angelfish can draw territorial aggression. Assess those risks before introducing it to an established collection. Ask about the current life stage when choosing the fish, since juvenile bands are not a permanent feature of this species.
