Green Emerald Crab

The Green Emerald Crab (Mithraculus sculptus) is a green reef crab that forages among rockwork for algae and meaty food. It may consume bubble algae, but its role in a reef should be assessed as that of an opportunistic omnivore.

Provide an established aquarium with crevices and sheltered places. Emerald crabs often hide during the day, especially when newly introduced, and may become easier to observe once they settle into the aquascape.

Maintain a varied feeding supply, supplementing with suitable marine algae, pellets, or small meaty foods when needed. An underfed crab may turn to corals, other invertebrates, or small fish. Monitor its behaviour and do not treat the name cleanup crew as a guarantee of compatibility with every reef inhabitant.
