Golden Damsel

The golden damsel, Amblyglyphidodon aureus, brings yellow coloration to the reef's open water and rock edges. It is a substantial, active damselfish whose adult space needs should be considered alongside its bright juvenile appeal.

Arrange rockwork with multiple retreats and room to swim above and between structures. Offer balanced marine omnivore foods, combining small meaty items with algae-based preparations. Several moderate meals give an active fish opportunities to feed without relying on grazing alone.

A damsel may defend the area around its preferred shelter. Evaluate timid fish and similar damsels carefully, and watch interactions as the community matures. Adding several individuals together does not guarantee a stable group; each fish still needs reliable access to food and a place to retreat.
