Golden Back Trigger

The golden back trigger, Xanthichthys caeruleolineatus, is also known as the outrigger triggerfish. Its upper and lower body colours are divided by a fine blue line, and adults can approach 35 cm, requiring a substantial permanent swimming space.

This species takes plankton from the water, so offer varied marine meaty foods it can capture while swimming, including suitable mysis and chopped seafood. Build secure resting shelters around the edges of the aquarium while preserving long, open routes through it.

Small shrimp remain at risk even though this trigger is often more compatible with reef animals than many of its relatives. Loose rocks may also be moved and damage corals. Assess the whole community and aquascape rather than treating its feeding category as a guarantee of safe behaviour around every invertebrate.
