Forktail Blenny

The forktail blenny, Meiacanthus atrodorsalis, is a fang blenny with a blue-to-yellow body and elongated outer tail rays. It is more active in the water than many grazing blennies and benefits from both swimming room and rock shelter.

Offer small marine meaty foods such as mysis and finely chopped crustacean flesh, with suitable herbivore preparations for variety. An algae-covered aquarium is not a complete feeding plan for this fish. Check that food reaches it when it shares the display with quicker feeders.

Keep introductions to other blennies or similarly shaped fish under observation, as territorial conflict is possible. The defensive fangs can deliver a venomous bite if the fish feels threatened. Avoid handling it directly, and close equipment gaps in the aquarium cover.
