Flat Red Seaweed adds broad red growth to an illuminated marine display or refugium. Like other ornamental macroalgae, it uses light and dissolved nutrients for growth. Keep its blades exposed to circulating water and inspect them for debris that can settle across the flat surfaces.

Leave space between this seaweed and faster-growing neighbouring algae. Watch for shading, loss of tissue and a decline in new growth, then review light, nutrient availability and water movement together. Avoid treating red colour as a precise guide to required light intensity or assuming that extra fertiliser is always needed.

Prune excess healthy growth and take decaying pieces out of the system. Fish that graze seaweed may remove it quickly, making a refugium useful for protecting the planting. Match temperature and attachment arrangements to the supplied culture before establishing a permanent position.
