Flame Tip Macro Algae (Clipping)

Flame Tip Macro Algae is supplied as a clipping for a marine planted display or illuminated refugium. Red macroalgae need light and access to dissolved nutrients to maintain healthy growth. Position the clipping where it remains visible and receives water movement without being drawn into pump intakes.

Adjust lighting gradually and watch new growth and tissue condition. Red coloration alone does not establish a particular light requirement, and pushing the strongest available lighting can damage delicate growth. Keep the clipping free of accumulated debris and leave room around neighbouring algae so it is not shaded out.

Trim healthy excess growth as it develops and remove deteriorating portions promptly. Harvesting removes the nutrients contained in that tissue; simply letting algae decay returns them to the aquarium. Grazing fish may eat ornamental macroalgae, so a protected growing area can be useful.
