Fire Dartfish

The Fire Dartfish (Nemateleotris magnifica), also known as a Firefish, has a pale front half, reddish rear body, and a prominent first dorsal fin. It often hovers above the reef close to a retreat it can enter quickly.

Build several sheltered escape routes into the rockwork and choose peaceful companions. This timid fish can jump when startled, so a secure aquarium cover is an essential part of planning for it. Check openings around plumbing and equipment as well as the main lid.

Fire Dartfish feed on small drifting animal foods. Arrange feeding where the fish can take appropriately sized morsels without being chased from its shelter. They can be territorial with their own species; do not assume that two separately listed fish form a compatible pair.
