Filamented Flasher Wrasse (M)

The filamented flasher wrasse, Paracheilinus filamentosus, is known for extended fin rays and brief, vivid displays. Colour and fin development change with maturity and social conditions. Check the available fish’s sex and size when selecting it; display colours are not a permanent appearance throughout the day.

Leave open water above the rockwork for swimming and provide crevices where the wrasse can settle. Small marine meaty foods and suitable wrasse preparations should be offered regularly. A close-fitting cover is particularly important around plumbing and feeding openings.

Choose neighbours that will not repeatedly chase it away from food. Other wrasses require careful introductions, since similar fish can become rivals. A spacious layout with several retreats helps the aquarist manage those interactions without assuming that a group will automatically be compatible.
