Drampiera Dottyback

The Dampiera dottyback, Labracinus cyclophthalmus, is a robust predatory fish with reddish to brown tones. It is much more substantial and assertive than the small, peaceful-looking dottybacks often pictured in community reef aquariums.

Create a mature marine setting with roomy caves, cracks and retreats. Offer varied marine meaty foods and watch the fish's feeding and territorial behaviour as it settles. Its tendency to stay near shelter does not mean it lacks the ability to dominate the surrounding aquarium.

Small fish, shrimp and other crustaceans may be eaten. Choose larger, compatible companions that will not be continually intimidated, and avoid adding it to a community of timid nano fish. Plan a separate holding option if disputes develop, since secure shelter alone cannot make unsuitable tankmates compatible.
