Dragons Breath Macro Algae

Dragon's Breath Macro Algae brings branching red growth to a marine display or refugium. The familiar dragon's-breath type can develop contrasting orange-looking tips under suitable illumination, adding an ornamental role alongside its nutrient uptake.

Provide good water movement and enough space for the fronds to remain clean and exposed to light. It grows more slowly than some macroalgae used for heavy nutrient export, so give it time to establish rather than expecting rapid correction of a nutrient problem.

Herbivorous fish may consume this soft growth. A protected refugium can preserve the planting when the display contains enthusiastic grazers. Keep nutrient availability steady and remove unwanted growth as part of regular maintenance. Appearance depends on the algae and lighting conditions; avoid abrupt changes while a new portion settles.
