Double Sea Star

The Double Sea Star is named for the star-like pattern visible within the outline of its arms. It is a slow-moving display invertebrate for a mature aquarium with sand, rubble and established rock surfaces to explore.

Its care depends on sustained access to suitable food, including the small organic material associated with mature reef surfaces. Do not assume that a new aquarium, clean sand, or occasional fish leftovers will meet those needs. Offering appropriate small marine foods can help assess feeding, but acceptance must be observed rather than assumed.

Allow sheltered routes around the rockwork and protect the animal from nipping fish. Sea stars are sensitive to abrupt changes in salinity and water quality, so stable conditions and careful transfers matter. This is a considered livestock choice, not a quick remedy for a dirty substrate.
