Common Anthias

An anthias display needs reliable feeding access as well as room above the rockwork. Build shelter into the lower structure while leaving the middle of the aquarium open for movement and food delivery. Cover the tank carefully, including small equipment gaps, because anthias may jump.

Provide repeated small servings of appropriate marine meaty foods and observe each fish through the meal. A busy feeding response from dominant fish can hide a quieter individual that gets very little. Balance the feeding schedule with filtration and removal of uneaten food to keep the aquarium stable.

Common Anthias is a broad trade label, so confirm the current scientific identification before choosing a group, companion species or adult tank size. Anthias can differ in social strength and feeding difficulty. Base a purchase on that identification and the individual’s feeding history, rather than expecting every anthias to behave like a familiar lyretail.
