Codium Macro Algae (Clipping)

Codium is a green ornamental macroalgae with thick, softly textured branches that resemble an underwater shrub. A clipping can provide a different form from fine Chaetomorpha strands or flat red seaweeds, especially in a display designed around marine plants.

Place it where suitable light and steady water movement reach the branches. The surface should stay free of smothering debris, and the piece needs a stable position while it establishes. Avoid assuming that every Codium species has identical temperature tolerance; match the supplied material to the conditions in which it has been held.

Treat Codium primarily as a decorative living macroalgae with some nutrient uptake. Its growth is less suited to rapid nutrient export than vigorous refugium crops. Observe for new growth and deterioration, and prune damaged sections rather than allowing them to decay in the display.
