Clown Tang

The clown tang, Acanthurus lineatus, is recognised by its dense blue and yellow-orange striping. It is a powerful, active surgeonfish whose adult swimming demands and territorial behaviour call for substantial space and careful stocking choices. An adult can approach 30 cm (12 inches), with considerable swimming and territorial space requirements.

Provide a mature marine aquarium with long open routes, strong water movement appropriate to the display and rock surfaces for grazing. Offer marine algae and balanced tang foods consistently, with variety beyond a single food item. A growing fish needs a sustainable feeding plan as well as visible algae in the aquarium.

Similar tangs and other competitors can draw aggression, so plan introductions with the full adult community in mind. Handle containment carefully because the tail carries sharp defensive spines. Confirm the available fish's feeding response and condition before committing to this demanding resident.
