Candy Cane Pistol Shrimp

The Candy Cane Pistol Shrimp is a small snapping shrimp recognized by its red-and-white banding and burrowing behavior. Its enlarged claw produces the characteristic click, while much of its daily activity takes place around a sheltered entrance in the substrate.

Provide sand, small rubble, and securely supported rockwork that cannot collapse as the shrimp excavates. This type can associate with compatible shrimp gobies, including suitable Stonogobiops and Amblyeleotris, but an individual pairing should never be treated as guaranteed.

Offer small meaty foods close to the burrow so faster fish do not take every portion. Tiny ornamental shrimp may be at risk, and larger predators can threaten the pistol shrimp itself. Keep water conditions stable and leave it a secure retreat while it molts.
