The canary top wrasse, Halichoeres leucoxanthus, is also called the whitebelly or lemon meringue wrasse. Its yellow upper body and pale underside distinguish it from an all-yellow wrasse, although markings can change as it matures.

An established aquarium should offer both active foraging space and a suitable sand bed. This wrasse buries to rest or when startled, so keep a clear area of soft substrate and avoid disturbing its sleeping place. Supply varied small marine meaty foods and an appropriate prepared diet.

Its search for small animals can include ornamental crustaceans and fanworms. Consider these residents when choosing a reef setting, and assess other wrasses for territorial conflict. A tightly fitted cover remains necessary even for a fish that often retreats into sand.
