Bumblebee Snail

The Bumblebee Snail has a dark shell crossed by pale bands and spends time working through small spaces in rockwork. Its feeding role differs from that of familiar algae-grazing snails: it searches for animal material and small invertebrates.

Provide an established aquarium with crevices and opportunities to forage. Supplement with tiny portions of marine meaty food when natural food is limited. Do not buy it as an algae solution, and do not assume it will selectively remove a particular pest while leaving all other organisms alone.

Bumblebee snails may consume worms and can prey on other snails, especially when food is scarce. Consider that tradeoff if the aquarium contains valued small mollusks or a carefully developed sand-bed community. Consistent salinity and copper-free water are also essential to its care.
