Bumble Bee Shrimp

The marine Bumble Bee Shrimp is a small, banded shrimp with a secretive lifestyle among reef rubble. Its compact body and contrasting stripes are best appreciated in a quiet aquarium where larger animals will not intimidate or consume it.

Feeding deserves particular attention. Bumble bee shrimp can feed on the tube feet of echinoderms, so they should not be assumed safe with every sea star or urchin. Offer tiny portions of marine meaty food daily and observe the individual actually eating; its small size makes missed meals easy to overlook.

Arrange sheltered spaces that remain visible enough for feeding checks. Avoid fish and larger crustaceans that prey on small shrimp. Maintain consistent salinity and keep copper treatments out of the display, particularly when the shrimp is vulnerable during a molt.
