Brunneus Fairy Wrasse

The Brunneus fairy wrasse, Cirrhilabrus brunneus, brings a darker colour palette to the fairy-wrasse group. Like its relatives, it is an active fish that needs open swimming space as well as secure places within the rockwork to rest.

Offer small marine meaty foods and suitable prepared diets where the fish can take them from the water. Keep the layout open above the rocks, with several crevices available for retreat. Fit the aquarium cover carefully, including the spaces around equipment, because startled fairy wrasses can jump.

Other wrasses should be selected for compatibility, not simply variety of colour. Competition can develop around shelter and feeding, especially between similar fish. Check the actual specimen's appearance and behaviour before purchase, since maturity and individual differences affect how a wrasse looks and settles.
