Bluehead Fairy Wrasse

The bluehead fairy wrasse is commonly identified as Cirrhilabrus cyanopleura, a fish also sold under the blue-sided name. Its red, maroon and blue colour combination varies between individuals and life stages; confirm the actual fish if a particular appearance matters to your display.

Arrange an established aquarium with open water above rock shelters. Feed modest, frequent portions of small marine meaty foods and suitable prepared food. Check that the wrasse leaves cover to eat without being chased by faster or more assertive neighbours.

A close-fitting lid is essential because this species can jump. Other fairy wrasses need deliberate compatibility planning rather than an assumption that matching fish types will get along. Provide multiple retreats and monitor interactions when adding any similar resident.
