Blue Streaked Cleaner Wrasse

The blue streaked cleaner wrasse, Labroides dimidiatus, is a slender fish marked by a dark stripe running toward the tail. Its natural cleaning behaviour makes it fascinating, but specialised nutrition also makes it a demanding aquarium resident.

An experienced keeper should confirm the individual accepts a sustainable diet before purchase. Offer suitable small marine meaty foods and monitor its condition closely. A mature aquarium needs rock overhangs and retreats, with enough room for other fish to move away from unwanted cleaning attention.

This wrasse is not a substitute for diagnosing or treating disease. It may persistently pick at unwilling fish or invertebrates, and cleaning opportunities alone do not establish that its nutritional needs are met. Secure the aquarium cover because cleaner wrasses can jump when disturbed.
