Blue Spotted Ribbon-tail Ray

The blue spotted ribbon-tail ray, Taeniura lymma, is a marine stingray with vivid blue spots and a rounded disc. Adults can reach roughly 30–36 cm across the disc, with a tail extending beyond it; an appropriate system needs extensive unobstructed floor space.

Provide fine sand, secure shelter and filtration suited to a substantial carnivore. Feed varied marine meaty foods, checking that meals reach the ray and are actually eaten. Its natural prey includes crustaceans, molluscs, worms and small fish, so those animals are not automatically suitable companions.

This is a specialist animal requiring careful handling around its venomous tail spine. Avoid crowding it during maintenance and assess all tankmates for harassment risk. Establish a ray-appropriate treatment plan, since routine copper-based fish medications are unsuitable.
