Blue Ringed Angelfish

The blue ringed angelfish, Pomacanthus annularis, develops blue curved stripes over a tan-brown adult body and retains a pale tail. A juvenile looks very different. With reported growth to about 46 cm (18 inches), this fish needs a substantial permanent home.

Leave broad swimming routes around large caves and mature rock surfaces. Offer sponge-containing angelfish preparations together with marine meaty and algae-based foods. Regular feeding is essential even when it appears occupied with browsing throughout the day.

Corals, sponges and other attached invertebrates may be sampled. Similar large angelfish can also provoke territorial behaviour, so evaluate companions and available shelter before introduction. Confirm the current size and life stage of the fish when planning transport and the space required for continued growth.
