The blue pelagic porcupinefish, Diodon eydouxii, is an open-water species with a blue upper body and pale underside. Reported adult length reaches about 27 cm. Its natural swimming habitat makes a very spacious marine system more appropriate than a crowded rock-filled display.
Wild fish consume larger zooplankton and fish larvae. In an aquarium, offer suitably sized marine meaty foods such as mysis and other crustacean preparations, and confirm the individual accepts a sustainable diet before purchase. Preserve broad swimming routes and avoid sharp, closely packed décor.
Its feeding habits mean tiny fish and small invertebrates need careful compatibility assessment. Do not assume that husbandry for every bottom-foraging porcupinefish applies unchanged to this pelagic species. Arrange handling and transport to minimise stress, and never provoke inflation for display.
