Blue Maxima Clam

The Blue Maxima Clam displays a blue-patterned mantle above its sculptured shell. Tridacna maxima is a light-dependent reef clam: symbiotic algae within the mantle supply much of its nutrition, making lighting a central part of successful care.

Offer a stable, well-lit position on a solid surface where the clam can attach. Leave the mantle fully exposed to the light, but acclimate it gradually to a new fixture rather than immediately placing it at maximum intensity. Water movement should carry water past the animal without repeatedly folding its mantle.

Maintain calcium and alkalinity for shell growth and watch for fish that nip exposed tissue. Do not pull an attached clam from its support. Blue coloration describes the listing's color group; pattern and appearance can vary with the individual and viewing angle.
