Blue Linckia Sea Star

The Blue Linckia Sea Star is an eye-catching reef animal whose feeding requirements make it a demanding long-term commitment. Its blue arms move slowly across rock and other surfaces, exploring the films and small organic material present in an established marine habitat.

Choose a large, mature aquarium with extensive live rock and a stable biological community. A recently cycled tank, or one stripped of natural surface growth, does not offer the same feeding opportunities. Prepared food should not be assumed to replace its natural diet, and gradual starvation can occur even when the star initially appears active.

Keep salinity and temperature steady and transfer the animal gently. Avoid fish or invertebrates that nip its arms. This species is best approached as a specialist display animal whose nutrition needs ongoing attention.
