Blue Faced Angelfish

The blue faced angelfish, Pomacanthus xanthometopon, develops a striking adult face and body pattern that differs greatly from the striped juvenile. It is a substantial marine angelfish requiring a long-term home with generous swimming space and mature reef structure. With reported adult growth to about 38 cm (15 inches), it needs substantial room to turn and browse.

Arrange rockwork to provide roomy caves as well as places to browse. Feed varied marine angelfish preparations containing sponge, together with algae-based and meaty foods. Its natural browsing behaviour should supplement a planned feeding routine, not replace it.

Corals, sponges and other attached invertebrates may be sampled, making reef compatibility a considered choice. Similar large angelfish can also trigger territorial behaviour. Confirm the current life stage and size of the available fish, and assess its adult needs against the aquarium's footprint before purchasing.
