The blue eyed bristletooth tang, Ctenochaetus binotatus, is also known as the two-spot bristletooth. Its blue eye ring and fine facial markings distinguish a fish that spends much of its day browsing rock surfaces.
Give it a mature aquarium with grazing surfaces, caves and clear swimming lanes. Offer algae-based foods, including suitable marine seaweed and balanced herbivore preparations, so its diet continues even when the display looks clean. Watch feeding and body condition rather than treating a grazing fish as a self-sufficient cleaning tool.
Bristletooth tangs can challenge similar-shaped tangs and other competitors for space. Plan introductions around the whole community and provide separate retreats. Like other surgeonfish, it has a sharp spine near the tail that requires care when moving or containing the fish.
