Black Lighting Brittle Star needs sheltered rockwork with spaces for its central disc and flexible arms. Leave routes into cover rather than wedging the animal into a narrow gap. Handle it gently without pulling the arms, which can break when the animal is disturbed.

Feeding deserves deliberate attention. Many aquarium brittle stars take small frozen marine foods or flakes, while others gather much finer particles. Offer food close enough for the arms to collect it and verify that it reaches the mouth; leftover fish food elsewhere in the tank is not proof that the star is fed.

Keep salinity stable and avoid sudden water-quality changes. Brittle stars include predators, so dark colour does not establish safety with tiny fish, shrimp or clams. Confirm feeding behaviour and adult size before choosing close companions.
