Black Fin Fairy Wrasse

The blackfin fairy wrasse, Cirrhilabrus melanomarginatus, is an active reef fish with colours that differ between sexes and maturity stages. Dark fin margins are part of its appeal, but individual appearance should be checked against the available fish rather than assumed from a reference photograph.

Allow open swimming room above a network of caves and crevices. Feed small marine meaty foods and a balanced prepared diet that the fish can capture in the water. Secure gaps around the lid and equipment because fairy wrasses can jump when startled.

Evaluate other wrasses carefully before combining them. Similar colour, shape or territorial interests can cause disputes even in an otherwise settled community. Multiple retreats and observation during introductions are useful, with room to separate a fish that is persistently chased.
