Black and Gold Chromis

The black and gold chromis, Neoglyphidodon nigroris, is a territorial damselfish despite the chromis name. Its juvenile colours change substantially as it matures, so choose it for its adult behaviour as well as its early pattern.

Rockwork with crevices gives this fish shelter and a place to establish a territory. In nature it grazes algae and associated small organisms. An aquarium diet should therefore offer both algae-based marine foods and suitable meaty items, rather than relying on the tank's visible algae alone.

This is not a reliable choice for a peaceful schooling display. Individuals can defend space vigorously against their own species, and timid neighbours may lose access to food or shelter. Review the existing community before adding one and watch interactions as it grows.
