Bi-Color Parrotfish

Bi-Color Parrotfish needs extensive, mature grazing surfaces and room for a powerful adult reef fish. The familiar bicolour trade name has been applied across more than one Cetoscarus species; some reach over 70 cm (28 inches). Confirm the current identification and adult accommodation before selecting one for a home aquarium.

Provide substantial live rock with natural growth and a varied supply of algae-based marine foods. These parrotfish crop surfaces with strong jaws and can remove material as they graze. Delicate coral displays and loosely balanced decorations need careful consideration: feeding activity can alter the rock surface and produce sediment.

Leave swimming routes open and provide a sheltered resting area. Choose companions that allow uninterrupted grazing and feeding. A juvenile’s colour pattern is temporary, and adult appearance changes with maturity and sexual phase; select the fish for its long-term needs rather than expecting its present markings to remain.
