Banded Cat Shark

The banded cat shark is the brownbanded bamboo shark, Chiloscyllium punctatum. It is a bottom-dwelling marine shark whose juvenile bands become less prominent with age. A permanent shark system needs to be planned around its adult body and turning space, well before purchase. Adults can reach about 105 cm in total length, making floor area and turning room major design requirements.

Use a broad, unobstructed floor with fine sand and securely supported shelters. Feed a varied marine carnivore diet and make sure food reaches the shark instead of being intercepted by faster fish. Strong filtration is needed to manage the waste from substantial meaty meals.

Small fish and crustaceans are potential prey, while aggressive fish can disturb a resting shark. Carefully evaluate every companion. Sharks are sensitive to copper, so discuss an appropriate treatment setup before adding one to any aquarium where medications have been used.
