Azure Damsel

The azure damsel, Chrysiptera hemicyanea, is a blue-and-yellow damselfish whose yellow extends beneath the body. Its quick movements between rock shelters make it an engaging resident of an established marine aquarium.

Give it multiple crevices and room to feed away from its preferred refuge. Offer small marine meaty foods alongside algae-based and balanced omnivore preparations. A regular varied diet is still needed when the fish spends time inspecting the rockwork for edible material.

Although often chosen among the less forceful damsels, it can defend its own space. Consider the needs of shy fish and monitor territorial behaviour after new introductions. Several azure damsels should not be assumed to form a peaceful group automatically; the aquarium must provide enough separate shelter and feeding access for each resident.
