Astrea Snail

The Astrea Snail grazes algae from hard aquarium surfaces, including established live rock and glass. Its raised, cone-like shell distinguishes it from flatter grazers and makes it a useful option when film growth on rockwork is the main concern.

Provide enough mature grazing area to support the number of snails added. If natural algae becomes scarce, offer an appropriate vegetable-based marine food and confirm that the snail can reach it. Adding more grazers than the aquarium can feed creates a starvation problem even in an otherwise healthy reef.

Check for overturned snails during routine maintenance: Astrea can struggle to right themselves after a fall. Keep salinity stable, maintain water chemistry that supports shell growth, and avoid copper-based treatments in their aquarium.
