Ambon Damselfish

The Ambon damselfish, Pomacentrus amboinensis, is a yellow-toned reef fish whose juvenile eye spot can fade with maturity. It adds movement around rockwork, but its developing territorial behaviour should be part of the stocking decision from the beginning.

Build an established marine setting with caves, crevices and open swimming space. Offer a mix of small meaty foods and algae-based marine preparations in several modest meals. Food should reach the fish without requiring it to abandon cover for a crowded feeding corner.

An adult may challenge similar-sized fish and newcomers around its territory. Extra rock shelters can divide the aquarium into separate areas, although simply buying juveniles together does not ensure a lasting group. Consider the needs of shy residents before choosing this damsel.
