Choosing Rabbit Fish
Rabbitfish and foxfaces are active grazers whose adult space requirements can be easy to underestimate when choosing a juvenile. Open swimming room, rock shelter and a regular supply of marine algae or suitable herbivore foods are central considerations.
Their venomous fin spines require careful planning during maintenance and transfers. Check compatibility with other rabbitfish and monitor coral tissue, since some individuals nip reef invertebrates. Algae grazing is useful behaviour, but it does not make every rabbitfish harmless in every reef or eliminate the need for purposeful feeding.
