Heaters

Select an aquarium heater for the water volume and the temperature rise needed above the room's coldest normal conditions. A tank in a cool basement can require different heating capacity from the same tank in a warm room. Use the manufacturer's sizing guidance and check that the heater physically fits its intended location.

Adjustable and preset heaters suit different needs. Confirm the operating temperature suits the livestock, then compare immersion requirements, mounting options and any external-controller compatibility. Position the heater where water can circulate around it and carry heat through the aquarium.

Use a separate thermometer to check the actual water temperature. Disconnect the heater and allow the specified cooling time before removing it or lowering the water around it. Inspect the body and cable during maintenance and replace damaged equipment instead of continuing to use it.
