RED CHALICE CORAL

Red Chalice Coral is a stony coral selection for an open section of the reef where its surface and expanding margins remain visible. Chalice is a broad aquarium grouping, so use the actual specimen's shape to decide how to support it securely.

Begin with moderate illumination and water movement that clears debris from the surface. Strong, direct flow can destabilise a plate-like colony, while very weak flow lets particles lodge in depressions. Recheck circulation as the coral grows and changes the space around it.

Its symbiotic algae supply energy, and small marine foods can supplement that nutrition. Feeding may be less obvious than on a tentacled LPS coral, so allow time for capture. Leave room between this chalice and its neighbours; direct tissue contact can lead to damaging competition.
