RED BLASTOMUSSA

Red Blastomussa is a large-polyp stony coral with rounded, fleshy feeding surfaces that inflate over its skeleton. A sheltered position where those polyps can open freely makes it easier to appreciate the colony and observe whether each mouth is feeding.

Start with low lighting and moderate, indirect water movement. Excessive brightness may cause abnormal inflation or poor expansion, so adjust exposure patiently. Keep the base stable and allow clearance from other corals, particularly species with long stinging tentacles.

Blastomussa benefits from direct feeding alongside photosynthesis. Offer small portions of meaty marine food that the polyps can fully ingest and prevent leftover food settling around the base. Its soft appearance should not encourage rough handling: support the skeleton or mounting surface and protect the inflated tissue from pressure and abrasion.
