Eggplant Gonipora

Eggplant Goniopora is a flowerpot-type coral with individual polyps extending from a hard skeleton. Place it where its open canopy has room to sway and where you can inspect the base without moving the coral or disturbing the surrounding reef.

Begin in moderate light and direct variable circulation above and around the colony. Goniopora often reacts strongly to touch, so repeated contact from other coral tissue or the aquascape should be prevented. Consistent conditions and patient acclimation are more useful than frequent attempts to change its appearance.

Supplement its photosynthetic nutrition with small zooplankton particles that its polyps can capture. Feed modestly and observe the response rather than treating every powdered coral food as interchangeable. This coral needs continued monitoring because initial polyp extension does not guarantee long-term feeding success or sustained tissue health.
