Bubble Coral

Bubble Coral is a fleshy stony coral recognised by its inflated, bubble-like vesicles. Those delicate structures cover a hard skeleton, so place the colony where it can expand without scraping against rock and where you can support its base without pressing the tissue.

Start in moderate light with low to moderate, indirect circulation. A strong pump jet can tear the flesh, while excessive illumination can reduce inflation and cause colour loss. Keep the colony stable and avoid unnecessarily lifting an inflated specimen out of the water.

Photosynthesis contributes to its nutrition, and small meaty marine foods or suitable small pellets can supplement it. Allow time for feeding and remove excess. After dark, bubble corals can extend stinging sweeper tentacles beyond the inflated daytime outline. Leave generous separation and inspect their nighttime reach to protect neighbouring corals.
