Blueberry Gorgonian

Blueberry Gorgonian is a demanding nonphotosynthetic filter feeder, suited to an experienced keeper with a system designed around frequent feeding. Its delicate branches should not be treated like a photosynthetic sea fan that can obtain most of its energy from aquarium lighting.

Choose a shaded or low-light position with strong circulation carrying appropriately small food particles around the open polyps. Secure the colony so its branches do not rub against rock, and leave space from neighbouring corals and anemones. Keep tissue free of settled debris and maintain stable water conditions.

Frequent offerings of suitably small planktonic foods are necessary, with effective filtration and maintenance to manage the extra nutrients. Watch for sustained polyp activity and intact tissue over time. Lighting alone, occasional feeding or short-term polyp extension cannot establish that its needs are being met.
