Freshwater and planted aquariums need products matched to both their inhabitants and their water chemistry. Water conditioners, mineral adjustments, biological-filter support and plant fertilizers serve different purposes; one does not automatically replace another.

Check source-water hardness and the needs of the plants and fish before changing the aquarium's mineral balance. For plant growth, consider lighting, nutrient supply and available carbon together instead of responding to every problem with more fertilizer. Confirm that any treatment or supplement is suitable for the planted freshwater system you maintain.
