Choosing Jawfish
Jawfish build their lives around a burrow, often hovering just above its entrance before retreating backwards. Substrate suitability is a major selection issue: burrowing species such as the Pearly Jawfish need usable sand and small rubble, with rockwork supported securely.
A close-fitting cover helps contain startled jumps. Deliver small meaty foods where the jawfish can reach them without abandoning shelter, and check that it is actually eating. Avoid crowding its burrow with aggressive fish or competing bottom dwellers; open swimming volume alone does not provide an appropriate home.
